Solar-Powered Water Project Inaugurated in Orakzai
PESHAWAR: Two Solar-Powered Drinking Water Supply Projects Worth Rs7.7 Million Have Been Inaugurated in Orakzai Tribal District.
Qalandar Khan Lodhi, Provincial Food Minister, on that occasion was the chief guest. Orakzai, Haider Hussain, the Assistant Commissioner of the Orakzai, Salahuddin Kundi DPO and community members attended the Jirga Hall in Orakzai Tribal District in this Regard.
The plans were developed in the course of the project "reintegration and rehabilitation of temporarily displaced people in newly fused districts," financed by the Sarhad Rural Support Programme.
More than 150 families in Star Kallay and Shlandu village of the tribal district would benefit from the schemes. Mr Lodhi spoke at a meeting that welcomed district and SRSP efforts to identify fundamental human needs in the far-flung areas. The participatory development approach was, he said, a milestone for rural development.
The members of the local community said that women had to travel about 3 kilometres to collect water.
Arfeen Khan, the resident of Shlandu village, said, "Now drinking water will available in every house. In Kurram, Khyber, Orakzai, North Waziristan and South Waziristan with the support of the German government, the project to reintegrate and rehabilitation TDPs (Temporarily Displaced Persons) was implemented.
