Alert in Fake Tax Recovery Notices Issued
KARACHI: The Federal Revenue Board (FBR) alerted various taxpayers to the recovery of taxes in the face of fake notifications by unscrupulous elements.
The FBR advised taxpayers not to heed such false notices because unscrupulous individuals could receive key taxpayer information, including bank accounts.
Badaruddin Ahmed Qureshi, Inland Revenue Chief Commissioner at the RTO-II in Regional Tax Office Karachi stated that there have been complaints concerning the fraudulent activity of fake notifications.
Qureshi advised the taxpayer that any income tax notice would have a barcode. "No tax department without a barcode is allowed to issue notices," he said.

The counterfeit message was sent by the postal government. Details of taxpayers including NTN accounts and bank accounts were also provided.
In case of recovery failure, the notice also contained another correspondence with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to freeze the taxpayers ' bank account.
It should be noted that the FBR offices only notify bank branches for recovery by freezing bank accounts.
The Chief Commissioner said the FBR has initiated an inquiry to identify perpetrators of false reports. He added that any collusion between tax officers would lead to harsh action in such cases.
